In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit.  During these two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the incredible faculty the WCA has assembled.

The conference’s final speaker was the incomparable senior pastor of Passion City Church Louie Giglio.  The following are 43 leadership quotes and lessons from his session which, as you would expect, was completely focused on Jesus:

  1. I am a pastor of a new church plant in Atlanta, GA.  The doorposts of the Kingdom of God are humility and honor.  Humility meaning we have been with God and thanks to the people who made it happen.
  2. Glory goes to God and honor goes to people.
  3. There have been times in my life as a leader I’ve wanted to quick.
  4. I want to thank you Bill Hybels for not quitting.
  5. We are going to succeed in Jesus’s name.
  6. A lot of times as a leader I don’t know what I’m doing.  But I don’t let that stop me from remembering God has called me to something great.
  7. Sometimes you’re trying to lead but you just don’t know what to do.
  8. You don’t know everything to know to get up the mountain to take the next step.
  9. We’re not going up any mountains without knowing that life is brief.
  10. Most people don’t feel much urgency about the great things of life.
  11. The stakes are too high for us to die with a small vision.
  12. I wonder what it is God wants us to conquer.
  13. Time is short.  Life is short.
  14. Life is short.  But God is big.  Successful leaders breath this air.
  15. All of my life is about the fame and glory of Jesus Christ.
  16. The biggest idea of my life is believing Jesus’s fame is the biggest fame in time and eternity and everything is about Him to His glory.
  17. It’s all about Jesus.
  18. You get up a mountain one step at a time.  It is the only way to the top.
  19. Whatever that step is you can do it.  Whatever that step is you can’t do it.  Unless God does it it’s not going to happen.
  20. God’s power is sufficient enough for you and me to take the very next step He’s asking us to right now.
  21. “You were faithful in one campus I want you to reach the campuses.” – God to Louis and Shelley
  22. In 1964, my dad created the Chick-Fil-A logo.
  23. The whole time I was preaching to 60,000 college students my dad’s logo was under my feet.
  24. When everything looks like it’s going off the rails, God is preparing you for a greater story.
  25. There will be a day when we say, “Thank you God for bringing me through that trial.”
  26. I knew leading a church of 20 people in someone’s living room that if God doesn’t do it it’s not going to get done.
  27. There are a lot of exceptional leaders at this Summit but there are no saviors attending.
  28. We rest because what we do rests on God and not on us.
  29. I had built my whole life on serving people and all of a sudden in an hour I hated people.
  30. People don’t like preachers.  You got to get used to that but we pray for the people.
  31. It’s a luxury to do certain kinds of things but it’s a calling to bring the fame and glory to Jesus’s name.
  32. The storm galvanized us around our calling.  Come hell what may we’re going to proclaim the name of Jesus.
  33. Nobody goes up the big hill on the first day.
  34. Humility is what makes great leaders.  It’s not a character trait we develop.  It’s developed from being with Jesus.
  35. God’s grace is enough for you.
  36. It makes us hungry to take the very last step which is in the arms of Jesus.
  37. The goal is not to get up mountains.  It’s to get into the arms of Jesus.
  38. A leader can’t have a Plan B.  A leader has to be committed the finish.  A leader has to go all the way.
  39. Jesus said, “Extract me out of the tomb.”
  40. We’re not going to cash out.
  41. There is only a Plan A and Plan A is we’re going to fall into the arms of Jesus.
  42. No price is too high.  No sacrifice is too much.  I’m so glad I kept going up my mountain.  Don’t quit.
  43. Don’t stop walking in the confidence that Christ is enough to fulfill everything He has called you to do.
