In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit.  During these two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the incredible faculty the WCA has assembled.

The next session’s speakers were Bill Hybels, Don FlowAllen Catherine Kagina and Wilfredo De Jesús.  The following are 59 leadership quotes and lessons from their respective sessions on A Grander Vision:

Bill Hybels

  1. For the last several decades I have watched Willow Creek integrate their faith into the market workplace.
  2. Sadly, many Christ-followers give up trying to integrate faith into the workplace.
  3. There is a grander vision somewhere on planet Earth with your name on it.
  4. I bet a lot of you still wander around asking the question, “Is this all there is?”
  5. The satisfaction you’re looking for is never going to come from self-gratification.
  6. Find God’s bidding for your life and serve people indiscriminately.
  7. God loves you.  He didn’t mean for your life to feel bankrupt.
  8. God make you on purpose for a purpose.  There’s not an accidental human being.
  9. Pastors, you have to bring the Kingdom of God outside the walls of your church and into your community and the world.

Don Flow

  1. Work is a place Christ has called me to.
  2. I strive to create a culture that reflects Christ and His redemptive plan in the world.
  3. Trust God is at work in your midst every day.  This is the most important conversation I can have every day.
  4. My day begins with prayer that my work will be a guidepost for all who we come in contact with.
  5. If I don’t start my day like that, I don’t have the ability to bring love and hope.
  6. Love should animate Christian leaders.  It should be at the center of what we’re doing.
  7. I’m called to come alongside people, not just exercise authority over them.
  8. I’m called to be a person of truth, trustworthy, and not be self-seeking.
  9. The company will not be more truthful and more graceful than I am.
  10. I am responsible for the culture of our company.  It shapes the life of everyone in it.
  11. Covenant with our customers.  Community with one another.  Common good of our ciites.
  12. Once we’ve made a promise, we live with the promise.
  13. We intentionally limit our profits.
  14. Create a culture that is inclusive and invite everyone to participate.
  15. We provide $3,000 college tuition to any employee with a child.
  16. The world was not what it was meant to be.  We are not what we should be.  And business is not what it could be.
  17. 12 friends changed the world.
  18. Leadership flows out of who were are, not just what we do.
  19. Show respect.  Because we are made in the image of God, respect is a given right, not an earned privilege.
  20. Recognize the inherent job of every job in the workplace.
  21. The person you are leading wants to know if you are for me.
  22. Leaders need to cast a vision for how things were meant to be and not be satisfied with how things are.
  23. Challenge with confidence creates fear.  Confidence without challenge create complacency.
  24. Leaders need to celebrate but never satisfied because there is always another summit to climb.
  25. Clarity of purpose gives people something worth believing in.
  26. The world will not form distinctive Christians.  It is the calling of the church to do that.

Allen Catherine Kagina

  1. God doesn’t know the difference between church and politics.  He doesn’t know the difference between church and business.  We build these walls.
  2. I am proud to be an anointed tax collector.
  3. We had to have integrity and had to be competent.
  4. People have to know their rights before you run after them and collect from them.
  5. Why there was non-compliance is we had a really bad image.
  6. We went into the area to do community work.  We are tax collectors but we are here because you pay taxes.
  7. In 10 years, Go has invaded the Uganda tax authority.
  8. We are not a poor nation.  We have capacity issues.
  9. This was not about me.  It was always God’s idea.  He wanted to serve the people of Uganda.  He wanted the children to go to school.  He wanted medicine to be developed.
  10. If we invite the Kingdom of God to where we are, I believe God will take over and we will begin to see better societies.

Wilfred De Jesus

  1. Prayer is necessary.  Prayer is a weapon.  But we cannot allow prayer to be a crutch not to do anything.
  2. You cannot let your budget dictate your faith.
  3. Once the moral condition has been revealed to you, we must be moved to action.
  4. Gaps exist all over our countries, cities and villages.  Gaps today are wider and more destructive.
  5. Pastors must engage your community.  You must see it as your church.
  6. What is sacred is the message, not the method.  I’m going to send all kinds of bait of Jesus Christ.
  7. We must not be afraid to take our faith out into the communities.
  8. If you’re not going to do anything about the answer, don’t ask the question.
  9. With revelation comes responsibility.
  10. Nehemiah prayed.  Pray is good but it has to move us.
  11. Nehemiah planned.
  12. Nehemiah proceeded.  You’ve got to be willing to sacrifice.
  13. Nehemiah persuaded.  When you stand in gap there will always be opposition.  But if God is with you, who can be against you.
  14. Regardless of where you live, there is gaps everywhere.
