In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Double Conference at NewSpring Church.  During the next two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the conference designed to challenge and equip pastors and church leaders to double in weekly attendance.

This afternoon’s second breakout session was conducted by Amy Bagwell and Sherry Moorhead who taught How To Help Your Volunteers Be Successful.  The following are 20 leadership quotes and lessons from this incredibly helpful session:

  7. We don’t use the word “need”.  We have “opportunities” for you to serve. – Sherry
  8. It’s always people over process but you do have to have the process to love the people. – Sherry
  9. None of us on this staff have a clue what we’re doing. – Sherry
  10. The last thing we want is to have people serving but not enjoy it. – Amy
  11. Opportunities Tour – for someone who doesn’t know where they want to serve.  The big on-ramps are Guest Services, Next Steps, Fuse (students), KidsSpring and Production. – Amy

  13. If people are serving, the Lord is revealing gifts they never knew they had. – Sherry
  14. The first to do when you care for volunteers is to love them. – Amy
  15. Some of loving them is having tough conversations. – Amy
  16. The best way to lead volunteers and care about your volunteers is to be intentional in everything you do to build relationships with your volunteers. – Sherry
  17. Equipping is so much more than saying, “Hey usher, here’s a flashlight to help people to their seats.” – Sherry
  18. Equipping is creating structures to allow you love your teams. – Sherry
  19. We have to constantly break things down so the Lord can build it up. – Sherry
  20. We want to set teams up well so relationships can be built. – Sherry
