In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Double Conference at NewSpring Church.  During the next two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the conference designed to challenge and equip pastors and church leaders to double in weekly attendance.

This afternoon’s first breakout session was conducted by Shane Duffey, NewSpring Church’s Creative Arts Pastor, who taught How To Plan Services That Inform And Inspire.  The following are 33 leadership quotes and lessons from this incredibly helpful session:

  1. The primary way Jesus is going to build His church through the local church.
  2. Everything revolves around Sunday.
  3. On Sundays you draw crowd so you can hopefully build the church.
  4. I want to have church services that are excellent and compelling.
  5. We want to invoke some sort of action and response.
  6. Everyone ever born is going to ask 3 questions – Where did I come from? (origin)  Why am I here? (purpose) Where do I go when I die? (destination)
  7. To answer questions people have about their lives we have to be great communicators.
  8. There are two components to every church service – sayers (preachers) and senders (those who send you out to preach).
  9. Vision is what God’s calling your church to do.  Creativity is what it looks like while you’re doing it.
  10. If want to preach a gospel that’s hearable then when need to put on services that make that doable.
  11. In our services we can put on a bunch of vibrations but no sound.
  12. Failure for a church service is to put on a bunch of vibrations but no sound.
  13. Inspire is to get them to lean in to hear what you have to say.
  14. Inform is to familiarize yourself with a subject.  We want everyone who attends our serve to learn something they didn’t already know or be reminded of something.
  15. We don’t take Sundays off.  Next Sunday is the most important Sunday yet.
  16. Bad structure.  We’ve got to know who does what and who is accountable for what.
  17. 4 things you need to do to have great services.  Pray.  Plan.  Prepare.  Practice/Perspire.
  18. The church service is not where all my personal preferences come to life.
  19. We are not who we want to reach.  The church service cannot be designed for you.  You may not reach the people you’re trying to reach.
  20. To have a good plan you must have margin.  The plan should create more time for you not less.  People must have more time to practice what you plan.
  21. We plan 4-5 weeks ahead.
  22. We have two meetings a week at NewSpring.  The first is with a small number of people who sit down with the pastor to talk about his message.  Everything imminates from the message.  No one was ever saved by creativity but the Word of God.
  23. We don’t separate the message and creativity.  We bring them together.
  24. The second meeting is a larger meeting who executes the decisions from the first meeting.
  25. Good communication is essential after planning.
  26. Practice/Perspire – This is where most great plans fail, when you have to go to work on it.
  27. Excellence is giving God your best.  In a service, excellence is removing anything that distracts from who Jesus is.
  28. Hard work and smart work leads to great results.
  29. Preparation allows everyone with a role the time to do their best work.
  30. A healthy team is a productive team.  The way a team stays healthy because they want to do a good job.
  31. Senior pastor, it’s your responsibility to steward people’s gifts well.  Don’t get mad at them if they can’t keep up with you if you don’t give them the time to do things with excellence.
  32. God hasn’t ask anything from you that He hasn’t already given you.
  33. Our vision will always outpace our resource.
