In an effort to add maximum value to pastors and church leaders, INJOY Stewardship Solutions has dispatched me to attend the Double Conference at NewSpring Church.  During the next two days, I will be bringing some of the top leadership lessons from the conference designed to challenge and equip pastors and church leaders to double in weekly attendance.

The amazing senior pastor of NewSpring Church Perry Noble opened the conference as only he can.  Caution – buckle up because the following are 58 leadership quotes and lessons will challenge your thinking about what it takes to grow a church:

  1. If the Gospel has been unleashed, if Jesus is alive, if the Holy Spirit is unleashed in our church, then to expect nothing to happen is inconsistent with the Gospel.
  2. If we want our churches to grow, if we want to see the Great Commission fulfilled, we’ve got to learn to speak the same language.
  3. If the Bible said, “The Lord said”, then I’m going to go with it.
  4. When the church has a common language, the Lord Himself said they will do will be impossible.
  5. The question you want to ask if you want to double is why does your church exist?
  6. Everyone that walks in your doors has a vision for your church. Everyone.
  7. Vision and values are the two things you have to have to allow your church to grow. Vision and values that support it.
  8. Church people like things simple.
  9. What you think people know intuitively they don’t know.
  10. Church planters, please stop telling everybody how hard it is to plant a church where you planted.
  11. You’re planting a church. It’s going to hard to plant period.
  12. When you judge people coming in the door based on the Bible version they are carrying you feel superior to others.
  13. A lot of people want a program to grow your church. A program won’t grow your church. A process will.
  14. We want to reach people far from God.
  15. Every church says they want to reach messy people until messy people start showing up. It’s highly uncomfortable with messy people. The church for the longest time has been into behavior modification.
  16. Can people smoke in your parking lot?
  17. You can’t smoke in the parking lot but the guy watching porn can walk through your parking lot because it’s private.
  18. There are some denominations right now praying for revival and it’s not going to happen because they should be preparing the house for messy people to show up. If the house is prepared, the messy people will show up.
  19. Sick people don’t need to hear how sick they are. They know.
  20. No one is more reformed in their theology than the Apostle Paul. He wrote Romans. And he said it was his goal to win as many as possible. It sounds like you’re into numbers Paul? Yep.
  21. Engage – You know people are super-interested in spiritual things.
  22. When books are written on angels and demons it goes to the top. When people write on the end times it goes to the top.
  23. The church for time long has focused on things no one is interested in.
  24. Do you know people think about during the week – how do I handle the rape I had 10 years ago…They ask it internally. They won’t ask it publically.
  25. Use their felt needs to take them to their greatest need.
  26. We’re not taking the blood out. We’re just trying to not make it weird…I’m thankful for Jesus and his blood.
  27. The story of Jesus is life-changing. It’s captivating.
  28. Jesus didn’t die for music so quit calling stuff secular and Christian.
  29. Engaging people for pastors could be narrowing your message down to one sentence and saying it over and over again.

  31. The church, we take half-baked, water-downed, poorly prepared things and tell everyone we did it for God.
  32. They can’t sing. It doesn’t glorify the Lord. It sounds like a cow dying in a hail storm.
  33. You say she has a good heart (when she sings). I can’t hear her heart.
  34. Excellence is not perfection. It is simply giving the best effort with what you have.
  35. You can be authentic and give your best at the same time. That’s what Jesus did.
  36. Jesus Christ has never given us anything but His very best.
  37. Excitement – If you’re not excited about your church, then no one else is either. If you’re not excited about your church, Satan is excited you go to your church.
  38. Every Sunday at your church can be the best church ever? Why not?
  39. It’s only hype if you don’t believe it. It’s hope if you do believe it.

  45. Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  46. What would happen if the church responded to spiritual babies like we handle our babies?
  47. Show people patience. Patience does not excuse sin.
  48. The Pharisees were not patient with people. A new plant with too much water poured on it does not help it. It kills it.
  49. For the first 300 years the early church was not know for its theology. It was known for its generosity.
  50. Discipleship is not a program. It’s a process. It takes time.
  51. What if the church was known for it was nice to people? There’s just a bunch of Christians who are saved and just mad about it.
  52. Kindness does not excuse immorality.
  53. What do you do with homosexuals? The same thing we do with people in heterosexual sin.
  54. If you want to reach the gay community, it’s going to take kindness. Everyone wants to start an argument.
  55. When I see people far from God, I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be one of them.
  56. Where were you when Jesus saved you? Jesus changed me. And He’s still changing me.
  57. If we ever forget where we came from, we automatically want people who are saved to be where we are even though it took us 10 years to go there.
