The following are some amazing thoughts from the Co-Founder to the Miles Advisory Group, Shannon Miles.  Her thoughts will make you look at organizational leadership in a completely different light.  Enjoy!!

The leadership teams at the companies of Miles Advisory Group – eaHELP and MAG Bookkeeping – are composed almost entirely of women. So are the teams of contractors we employ on a daily basis to accomplish the goals of each of these organizations. Clearly, we believe that women can lead effectively and we’ve empowered these women to serve with excellence, to lead their teams with servant hearts, and to help us live out the mission of our organization every day.

That’s why I was so surprised – and frankly concerned – to see a recent piece published by Forbes about how the overwhelming majority of organizational leaders are still men, even though women score higher on nearly all the attributes needed to be successful leaders.

Now, I’m not here to fan the flames of the gender wars or to bash on one gender or another. That’s the last thing I’d ever want to do. We’re all essential parts of whatever teams we’re on, regardless of our gender or position. Each organization needs men and women and their unique perspectives and giftedness. But what really caught me from this piece was the author’s statement that the employees of these organizations are the reasons more women aren’t in leadership positions:

Misguided perceptions and stereotypes about female leaders at all levels of the workplace may be playing a role in employees’ preferences over who’s the boss.

So our preconceived notions about what female leaders are like may be holding back our fellow female coworkers from going after leadership positions. The author also theorizes that the lack of female leaders currently in organizations could be a contributing factor as well – when you don’t see many female leaders in an organization, they don’t see the benefits of working for a female leader.

We certainly see those benefits here. My fellow female leaders in our companies are doing incredible work every day. They’re tackling tough problems with strength and grace, which is a difficult line for any leader to walk regardless of their background. They’re walking alongside Bryan and me to help us carve out our space in this industry. And they get a TON of things accomplished, all working virtually and using technology to stay connected with each other.

If you want to see how female leaders can help your organization achieve its goals, just look at our leaders. And if you want to get something done – and get something incredible done! – make sure you’re hiring female leaders.
